Sukabumi Regency Signs Joint Agreement with Rumah Energi to Support Empowered Indonesia

Climate change in Indonesia causes various impacts such as drought, flooding, landslides, forest and land fires, heat waves, and decreased air quality. Awareness of the importance of switching to renewable energy is a vital step in striving for environmental sustainability and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

In December 2024, Sukabumi Regency was hit by flash floods and landslides, which caused losses in various aspects. The hydrometeorological disaster that triggered flash floods and landslides in Sukabumi Regency is an impact of climate change. Concrete efforts to respond to climate change through mitigation and adaptation actions need to be carried out in an integrated, synergistic manner and involve many parties. The Sukabumi Regency Government and Rumah Energi have agreed to establish sustainable cooperation in the Pelabuhanratu District.

On Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the Sukabumi Regency Regional Secretary Hall in Pelabuhanratu, a Joint Agreement was signed between the Sukabumi Regency Government and Rumah Energi regarding the Renewable Energy Development Program Cooperation and Equitable Energy Transition as an Effort to Adapt and Mitigate Climate Change. The Joint Agreement was signed by the Regent of Sukabumi Regency, Mr. H. Marwan Hamani, and the Executive Director of the Rumah Energi Foundation, Sumanda Tondang. This agreement marks the beginning of the collaboration between Rumah Energi and the Sukabumi Regency Government in implementing community empowerment in the Pelabuhanratu District for energy transition, as well as entrepreneurship training for women in the area.

The signing ceremony was held in conjunction with the Sukabumi Regency Government’s monthly working meeting agenda which was attended by all representatives of local government organizations and other private parties. It is hoped that through this collaboration, Pelabuhanratu can become a role model for other sub-districts or regions in Indonesia to implement community-based renewable energy development that supports efforts for a just energy transition.
