Happy Women's Day: Empowered Indonesian Women!

Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) menanami pekarangan dengan tanaman sayuran

The Women Farmers Group (KWT) plays an important role in maintaining food security for families and local communities. In this holy month of Ramadan, KWT utilizes its yards to plant various kinds of vegetables. This simple activity turns out to play an important role in meeting the family’s food needs, namely by processing it into dishes for sahur and breaking the fast.

Not only for families, KWT also plays a role in providing healthy food for local communities. Vegetable plants that are fertilized naturally with biogas dregs (bio-slurry) are better quality, so the dishes processed and served are guaranteed to be of good quality. The use of renewable biogas energy in cooking activities also contributes to reducing organic waste pollution.

This inspiring story comes from KWT Kaki Rinjani, a KWT that comes from a remote area, precisely at the foot of Mount Rinjani, Persil Hamlet, Karang Sidemen Village, North Batukliang District, Central Lombok Regency.

Mrs. Hakiah (45 years old), Chairwoman of KWT Kaki Rinjani who also works as a teacher at an Elementary School in Central Lombok, actively plays her role as a female entrepreneur. She processes good-quality coffee harvests into ready-to-drink coffee powder. Mrs. Hakiah even actively participates in social activities in the community such as cooperation, religious studies, and discussions with KWT members about the development of the group’s business. However, she is still able to prioritize the availability of healthy food for her beloved family. Mrs. Hakiah is a real example of an Empowered Indonesian Woman. She not only works to meet her own needs but also contributes to the welfare of society. Her dedication to agriculture and education inspires many people around her.
