The Essence of Returning to Fitri and the Implementation of Mindful Consumption

The celebration of Eid al-Fitr or Lebaran has passed. After a full month of fasting, we celebrate the moment of victory with family and relatives. Family gatherings are synonymous with abundant dishes, new clothes, and sharing Eid Allowances (THR). However, amidst the euphoria of the celebration, the question arises: is the spirit of self-restraint still maintained during Ramadan?

In fact, Ramadan is an exercise in self-control, namely preparing ourselves to face the months after. However, during Lebaran we often lose its essence, because our consumption actually increases. However, it is not uncommon for some people with financial awareness to also try to restrain themselves and not behave compulsively. The next important question is: after Lebaran has passed, are we ready to regulate our consumption patterns?

The concept of mindful consumption or consumption with awareness has begun to be widely echoed as a response to this excessive trend. Simply put, this concept encourages individuals to buy and use goods according to their needs, considering the social and environmental impacts of their consumption decisions. This concept is in line with Islamic values, namely about simplicity. Reflecting on Ramadan which has been passed with self-restraint, mindful consumption becomes very relevant to be implemented because, in addition to being based on the principles of sufficiency and simplicity, it is also oriented towards goodness for fellow human beings and the environment.
