Sharing Energy at IKI JET Community Practice on Just Energy Transition in Asia

The pressing matter of Just Energy Transition in Asia unfolded in a dialogue led by @International Labour Organization in their partnership with @UNOPS and @Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership under the IKI JET project. This collaborative platform, known as the Community of Practice (CoP), enabled government officials, union representatives, non-profit civil society, and mining associations from Indonesia, Mongolia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines to share their respective policy frameworks, tools and resources, financing mechanism, and valuable lessons learned gained from both progress and challenges in their energy transitions. The reinforcement of tripartite collaboration emerged from the discussion that governments, workers, and employers should be enhanced to provide solutions that are inclusive and equitable in transitioning away from coal across the region, ultimately aiming for #JustTransition.
The CoP aims to foster partnerships and peer-to-peer learning. During this opportunity, Rumah Energi shared its impactful work with the grassroot communities, showcasing an innovative financing model for climate action – the #GreenCooperative Program – that promotes an inclusive energy transition by empowering rural communities and providing access to affordable renewable energy solutions.
Within the 2-day workshop, @Bren Wiratsongko and @Danastri Widoningtyas engaged in meaningful discussions with participants, emphasizing the critical importance of economic diversification, skills development initiatives, innovative financing approaches and social protection. In the Indonesian context, the need for more inclusive discussion and policy dialogues that integrate both the energy and labor sectors was underscored to break down cross-sectoral planning silos between the two and achieve #IndonesiaBerdaya.
