Food Security Program

In line with Rumah Energi’s vision to create food-empowered society, Rumah Energi encourages people to fulfill their food needs through increasing agricultural productivity and energy independence for cooking.

As an effort to realize national food security, Rumah Energi supports the community in increasing the productivity of their agricultural commodities through the series of training and assistance to farmer, and use of Bio-Slurry, biogas waste that can be used as a natural fertilizer to maintain soil structure and increase plant fertility.

Extending Reach of Biogas

The success of Rumah Energi’s implementation of domestic biogas has encouraged us to expand and scale up its operations. This scale up involves an innovative business model by commercializing the residue produced by biogas which is known as bio slurry to further maximize biogas contribution to energy-food value chain and address the increasing cost of biodigesters. The new business model would require Rumah Energito offtake the bio slurry produced from its installed biodigesters at a certain price. By adding economic value to the bioslurry and offtake guarantee by Rumah Energi existing biogas users will be incentivized to maintain their digesters and for potential users to be incentivized in installing digesters.

In 2022, Rumah Energi was awarded as one of WE4F S/SEA’s innovators in which the fund was then channelled to Rumah Energi’s newly established business unit, namely PT Pupuk Suburkan Negeri (PSN) for piloting 111 demoplots for food-crops in East Java. The results from the demoplots were an average increase of production of 20%. Throughout the project to date, one of the lessons learned is that interests and demands came from institutional buyers such plantation companies and mining companies. The latter needed significant supply of bioslurry for post mining reclamation.
